Oldham County High School & JCTC

College Dual Credit Program

Welcome!

College Core Program

At Oldham County High School, we partner with Jefferson Community & Technical College to offer our students a jumpstart for their future.  This program provides the opportunity for high school students to earn college credit while still in high school. Students, who complete courses taught at their high school by qualified instructors providing the same rigor and content as an on-campus college class, can earn JCTC credit that will then transfer to most universities.

Why College Core?

  • College Core introduces Oldham County students to college classes while they are still in high school. Thus, College Core students are better prepared for college and graduates will have earned college credit that will transfer to 2 year and 4 year colleges.
  • Students will earn college credit by taking specific courses taught by college-level instructors at OCHS through Dual Credit and by attending specific courses at the JCTC Carrollton campus. Those college credits will apply to programs at Jefferson or any KCTCS college but they will also transfer to public colleges and most universities across the United States.  Credits will not transfer to Ivy League colleges.  There is a link to the transfer equivalency database on the homepage of this website as well as on the Resources page.
  • College credit will be awarded upon completion of a course.  Once the student graduates, he/she must go online through their student services account to request that their transcript be sent from JCTC to their college choice.
  • The final decision about the transfer of college credits is an individual college decision.
  • Students will have less college expense and time in college.
  • Students can take a lighter course load during the semester.
  • Students may not need to take a summer semester.
  • Students can complete a minor or a specialty.
  • Students will learn the Blackboard system: submit assignments, communication with their professors, monitor their grades, and more.

Dual Credit

Classes that offer our students the experience of earning both college credit and high school credit at the same time are referred to as dual credit courses.  These classes are taught by professors who may also teach at local universities.  OCHS offers classes at the high school as well as on the Carrollton campus of JCTC.
